When sisters Tabby and Pari Zamani set out to open a trendy clothing store in Washington, D.C., their intention was to provide the metropolitan community in the nation’s capitol with something that their counterparts in New York and Los Angeles had enjoyed for years: a chic boutique in the heart of the city that offered unique fashion with a sense of sophistication. Partners (and sisters) Pari and Tabby Zamani structured items at La’Vand to build a desired look from head to toe, turning the city streets into a runway.

One couldn’t have imagined the success the duo has realized so far. Despite being in their mid-20s (Tabby is 26, Pari 24), the tandem has exhibited an unparalleled business savvy usually reflective of seasoned entrepreneurs, and their boutique, La’Vand, has become somewhat of a cultural phenomenon.

To open the store, the siblings parlayed their innate love for fashion and bi-coastal flair to offer a selection of apparel that caters to those in tune with both west coast and east coast fashion. “I’m an east coast girl, Tabby’s a west coast girl, and everyone would always ask where we got our outfits from,” Pari explains. “What she would get from Los Angeles would be completely different from what I would wear when I went to New York to shop, and we thought, Why not bring east and west coast trends to D.C.? I was always involved in fashion shows when I was younger, and designed my own clothes for a show in high school, so I knew fashion was the direction I wanted to head into.” Both having an eye for fashion and style, they collaborated to bring the most fashionable, yet affordable, styles to the D.C. area.

The next step was picking a name for the store, and the La’Vand moniker seemed perfect in more ways than one. “We wanted to have a name that meant something in Persian and was close to our hearts, but something easy to pronounce,” Tabby recalls. “We wanted it to portray both our apparel and our customers, and people seem to love the name.” Derived from the Persian language, La’Vand means to exude sex appeal; sexy; seductive; provocative and attractive. Each item of clothing sold at La’Vand comes with a special tag that exhibits the Farsi translation of the namesake.

The entire concept of the store – highlighted by über-trendy lime green-walls and Euro-chic furniture – is predicated on exclusivity. La’Vand offers only six of each item, “so only five other people in the city have what you’re wearing,” explains Tabby. Located at Pentagon Row, the store has a fun, fresh and stylish feel to it, making you feel like you’ve just stepped onto a runway.

The sisters make frequent visits to N.Y. and L.A. to keep up on the latest fashion trends and provide their clients with the most contemporary threads around.
